General Strike Brings India to a Halt

2160

On May 21, 50 million workers shut down India in possibly the largest general strike since India’s independence in 1947. The strike was solidly supported even in rural areas. The strike was called to stop government sell-offs of publicly owned industries and attacks on workers’ living standards. The CWI section in India, the New Socialist Alternative, produced 15,000 leaflets in four languages over two weeks.
