From Egypt to Wisconsin, working-class people are rising up against injustice. Massive strikes and demonstrations rocked Europes ruling elites last year. Popular uprisings have toppled and challenged dictators and free-market policies across the Arab world. Now workers and youth in Wisconsin and across the U.S. have begun to fight back against budget cuts in education and health care enacted by both Republicans and Democrats.
Against this background Socialist Alternative is organizing a national speaking tour with Cindy Sheehan, a prominent leader of the antiwar movement. The tour will focus on how we can challenge the corporate agenda and fight for a better world.

The tour has gotten off to a great start with over 120 people attending the first meeting in New York City, where Socialist Alternative also had Howie Hawkins, Green Party candidate for Governor in New York in 2010 speak. Two meetings in Boston on April 11 drew over 100 people, the second of which included Jill Stein, Green-Rainbow Party candidate for Governor in 2010, and a representative from the Boston May Day Committee.

Cindy Sheehan
Following her sons death in Iraq, Sheehan gained national prominence in 2005 as thousands joined her protest camp outside President Bushs vacation ranch in Texas. Now among the nations foremost antiwar voices, Sheehan has written books and spoken extensively to crowds of thousands. After the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006 only to continue Bushs wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Sheehan broke from the Democratic Party. In 2008 she challenged then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for Congress, receiving an impressive 17% of the vote as an Independent candidate. Following speaking tours in Venezuela and Europe, Sheehan has increasingly spoken out against capitalism and in support of democratic socialism.
