Socialist Alternative National Conference Held Memorial Day Weekend

Published on

On May 22-24 Socialist Alternative held a 3-day National Conference in Seattle with over 70 in attendance including 33 elected delegates from 10 different cities across the US. The first day was focused on discussing the developing situation in the US and around the world and the new period we have entered marked principally by the world economic crisis. The second and third day dealt more with the questions of how to prepare for the this new period, discussing the tasks facing the socialist movement today.

As the crisis develops, more and more working people and youth will seek answers and a way out of the mess created by capitalism. From the conference, Socialist Alternative is preparing to boldly raise the banner of Marxism, putting forward a real alternative to the capitalist system while engaging in the basic struggles to defend the interests of working people and youth. The crisis will have a deep impact on consciousness ultimately laying the basis for the development of mass struggle in the US. Socialist Alternative will help to build those struggles, at the same time explaining the need to fight for a program that can fundamentally transform society.
