Debate: $15 Minimum Wage

Watch 15 Now activist and Socialist Alternative member Stephen Price, along with Professor Ben Cowan of WSU’s economics department, debate a right-wing economist and small business owner on the $15 minimum wage. The debate was organized by the Washington Policy Center, a right-wing think tank.

During the debate, the anti-$15 side claimed someone from 15 Now once told her that the only reason we selected $15 as the wage to fight for is that 15 is a round number. In reality, 15 Now chose $15 for two reasons: First, it is the starting point for what constitutes a living wage. Higher would be better, but lower would leave a worker well below twice the poverty level. Second, $15 has been the rallying cry of the brave fast food workers who walked off their jobs in NYC.
