Nigeria
In the last issue of Justice, we reported on the arrest of three student activists of the Democratic Socialist Movement (CWI Nigeria) under trumped-up charges of conspiracy to murder. Since then, the three have formally been granted bail, but the bail conditions are so severe that they have not been able to fulfill them and therefore remain in jail. Brazil
From November 2-4, Socialismo Revolucionário SR – CWI Brazil) held its very enthusiastic and successful 9th Congress. It marked an important step towards the building of a national organization. Previously, SR was mainly based in the state of São Paulo, but now has built an important presence in Rio de Janeiro and elsewhere. The congress discussed the recent growth of social movements, anger at the Lula government’s social cuts, and their work within the broad left party P-SOL. These discussions will help prepare the upcoming Latin American CWI School in February. This event will be crucial to bring together CWI members and supporters from Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, and other countries.
