Why I Became a Socialist

All my life, I have been bothered by what I had witnessed around me: companies laying off a thousand workers and then saying they’ve created a hundred new jobs, people spending more time at their jobs than at home due to mandatory overtime, the way women are portrayed in advertising and TV, watching friends of mine get arrested when I did not simply because of a difference in our skin color, and the list goes on.

It is through these experiences that I longed to find answers to the problems that plague our society. Early in high school, I studied different political systems and got my first understanding of communism/socialism, but I found our educational system to be unfulfilling.

Years later, after Bush decided to make his plans for Iraq known, I was furious, so it was time to find what I could do. I found Socialist Alternative, a party that I feel has real means and ideas for changing the capitalist agenda we are all forced to live under, and for creating a new system which will help us all truly live in a free and equal society. This is why I have decided to fight for revolutionary change.
